Kasha Recipe / Buckwheat Groats Recipe

kashaThis Kasha recipe (also known as buckwheat groats) is sweet, delicious, high in fiber and very heart healthy.  In the photo I sprinkled on a few hemp hearts, although that’s optional.  The most important part of this kasha recipe is measuring the water exactly so you get a nice finished groat.

This kasha (affiliate link) recipe makes a lot of finished groats so you may need to cut if in half, or even quarter it to get the amount you need.  As written this recipe should feed about 2 to 4 people.




2 cups water

1 pinch salt

1 stick cinnamon or ½ tsp cinnamon powder

1 cup buckwheat groats

2 tbsp hemp hearts (optional)

4 tbsp honey

4 tbsp butter

In a small saucepan, bring water, salt and cinnamon to a boil. Turn heat to low.  Add buckwheat groats and stir.  Add a tight fitting lid and cook over low for 15 to 18 minutes, until the groats are cooked through.  Remove from heat.  Add honey, butter and hemp hearts.  Stir well and serve hot.
